About the Division

About the Division

The Consumer Protection Division (Bureau) enforces state and federal laws that safeguard against deceptive, fraudulent, and unfair business practices. The Division also has enforcement powers over antitrust and monopolistic activities and is responsible for oversight of charitable institutions and assets, including nonprofit corporations, charitable trusts, and endowment funds. Furthermore, the Division oversees and enforces compliance with the civil and criminal statutes, regulations, and settlement terms governing the use, manufacture, and sale of tobacco/nicotine products within the State.

Reporting fraud can offer a wide range of benefits to Nebraskans

Fraud awareness is Nebraska’s first line of defense against scammers. Reporting fraud can help others recognize the warning signs before it’s too late. By reporting frauds and scams to our office, you can alert the Attorney General to new trends and help us educate our state’s citizens on how to protect themselves. We are able to share this information with other law enforcement agencies to enable them to detect patterns, identify the perpetrators of fraud, and to educate consumers beyond Nebraska.

Education & Outreach

Unfortunately, once an individual has suffered monetary loss to a scammer, it is almost impossible to recover the funds. One way we protect consumers is by equipping them to protect themselves. We educate consumers about identity theft, Internet safety, and how to recognize the warning signs of fraud and scams. This shared effort is accomplished through the Consumer Protection Bureau, the Consumer Affairs Response Team and Outreach who serve as members of the Communication Team in the AGO.
